Bluejays dominate Cambria-Friesland (Boys Basketball)

by Melanie Ayala, Senior Writer On Monday, February 9th, 2026, the Johnson Creek Bluejay boys basketball team won against the Cambria-Friesland Hilltoppers (5-14) at Johnson Creek High School, 72-37. Johnson Creek came in with a strong start and dominated the first half against Cambria, scoring 42 points by halftime, while Cambria scored 17. Throughout the rest of the game, the Bluejays continued to soar through their opponents and earn a total of 72 points, leaving Cambria in the dumps with a score of 37 total points. For the Bluejays, senior Brady Fincutter (0) and junior Hayden Wagner (1) carried the way, with Fincutter earning 24 points and Wagner adding another 20.  For the Hilltoppers, senior Dayton McBride (5) notched a double-double, scoring 13 points and snagging 11 rebounds. Bluejays come up short against ALCS (Girls Basketball)

by Madison Weidenhoeft, Senior Writer On Saturday, February 7th, the Johnson Creek Bluejays girls' basketball team went head-to-head with Abundant Life/Saint Ambrose Challengers (16-3) in Madison, falling by a score of 61-26. The first half of the game seemed to start out smoothly. Neither team was scoring a whole lot, and at one point, they were tied at around 15 points. But this did not last as Abundant Life came crashing in, scoring about 12 more points in what seemed to be seconds. The Ladyjays tried but couldn’t match their stride. The halftime score was 28-17, with Abundant Life in the lead. This was a continuous pattern throughout the rest of the game. The second half started with the Challengers making basket after basket, while the Bluejays followed not so close behind. It’s almost as if breaking 30 points was impossible for the Johnson Creek girls; this game was a definite struggle against a very skilled team. Fincutter scores 1,000th point as Bluejays handle Palmyra-Eagle (Boys Basketball)

by Michael Heinrich, Sophomore Writer On Friday, February 6th, 2026, the Johnson Creek Bluejays boys basketball defeated the Palmyra-Eagle Panthers (8-10) at Johnson Creek High School, 64-56.  The Bluejays had a packed house on Friday, partly because it was youth night, but mainly, people were coming to watch Brady Fincutter attempt to hit his 1,000th career point. The Bluejays did not disappoint on Friday; they fought a hard battle the entire game. The first half was a toss-up, ending at 29-28 at halftime with the Bluejays winning. In the second half, the Bluejays ran the show. They had the lead the entire game after half, winning the game 64-56. Senior Brady Fincutter hit his 1,000th point late in the second half of the game, and he finished with a team high of 17 points. Coming in right behind him, junior Hayden Wagner had 15 points.  The Johnson Creek Bluejays (11-8) will play Cambria-Friesland on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Johnson Creek High School.

Lady Jays take down Panthers (Girls Basketball)

by Madison Wiedenhoeft, Senior Writer On Friday, February 5th, 2026, the Johnson Creek girls' basketball team won against the Palmyra-Eagle Panthers at Palmyra-Eagle High School, 33-26. At the beginning of the first half, the Panthers scored just minutes in, but the Ladyjays followed close behind. There was a bit of pressure put on the Johnson Creek girls when Palmyra-Eagle kept making shots over and over. They were in the lead with 13 points, but the Ladyjays came back and cut the score to one. The halftime scoreboard read 14-13. Immediately after halftime, the Lady Jays got on the court all fired up and put two shots up. Halfway through the second half, the Panthers were failing to keep up while the Ladyjays seemed to just keep scoring.  By the end of the game, the Bluejays were able to secure the victory, 33-26. For the Bluejays, junior Lydia Wetzel dominated in the paint, scoring 17 points and grabbing 18 rebounds. Sophomore Paige Swanson also added 7 points and 12 rebounds. ...

Bluejays score huge road win over Parkview (Boys Basketball)

by Michael Heinrich, Sophomore Writer On Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026, the Johnson Creek Bluejays crushed the Parkview Vikings 83-57. Parkview started the game pretty warm, going up by a few points quickly. Johnson Creek had been starting slow recently and were sick of that and decided to turn it up this game. Shortly after, the Bluejays took the lead and never looked back. The game stayed within reach until right before halftime, when the Bluejays went up 39-23.  In the second half, Parkview didn’t have a chance; the Bluejays were on a roll. The Bluejays shot 55.3% from the field on 52.2% from behind the arc. Parkview never cut it to 15 points or less in the entire second half.  Hayden Wagner for the Bluejays led the game in scoring with 25 points, going 9/16 from the field and 5/10 on 3-pointers. Lady Jays fall to Horicon (Girls Basketball)

by Aiden Smith, Senior Writer  On January 31st, 2026, the Johnson Creek Bluejays (2-15) girls basketball team lost to the Horicon Marshmen (8-10) at Horicon High School, 57-29. The Marshmen controlled the first half, leading by a score of 23-13 at halftime. The Bluejays could not establish a rhythm in the first half. The Marshmen came out in the second half and overpowered the Bluejays.  It was a valiant effort from Johnson Creek, but Horicon would hang on to win, 57-29.  For the Bluejays offensively, sophomore Lia Constable led the team with 9 points.  Furthermore, sophomore Paige Swanson had 7 points, and senior Alyssa Hucke had 4 points. The Johnson Creek Bluejays (2-15) will travel to Palmyra on Thursday, February 5th, 2026, to take on the Palmyra-Eagle Panthers (4-12) in a conference matchup.

Bluejays fall to Mineral Point (Boys Basketball)

by Lizet Peralta, Sophomore Writer On Saturday, January 31, 2026, the Johnson Creek Bluejays boys basketball team lost to Mineral Point (12-3), 76-53. The Pointers controlled the first half, dominating by a score of 39-20 at halftime. In the second half, even with the Bluejays catching up fast, the Pointers still took the win by 76-53.  For Mineral Point, senior Drew Aschliman (11) had a great performance, scoring 18 points. Furthermore, he had some help from his teammate Keaton Dempsey (21), who scored 15 points. Mineral Point also received 13 points from senior Thorin Vamstad(1).  For the Bluejays, Brady Fincutter (0), Jon Kamuchey (12), and Ethan Broich (21) scored 12 points each.  The Bluejays also received help from Kace Friemund (13), who scored 6 points.  Up next, the Johnson Creek Bluejays boys basketball team will be traveling to take on the Parkview Vikings on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026, at 7:15 pm.
