Bluejays Advance in WIAA Playoffs with Sweep of Markesan (Volleyball)

On Tuesday, October 21st, the Johnson Creek Bluejays varsity volleyball team defeated the Markesan Hornets in the first round of the WIAA regional playoffs, three sets to none. 

The Bluejays put the hurt on the Hornets. In the first set, the Bluejays cruised to a 25-17 victory.  In the second set, Markesan kept it close, but the Bluejays pulled away in the end, 25-21.  

In the third and final set, it came down to the wire.  The Bluejays would hang on to win, 25-23, sweeping the Hornets in three sets to advance in the WIAA Playoffs.  This is the second time Johnson Creek has managed to beat Markesan this season.

Attigun Benz paced Johnson Creek's offense, picking up 18 kills. Benz got some help from Captain Olivia Frey and her 22 assists. Finally, Cecilia Micale kept Johnson Creek's defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.

Johnson Creek has been performing well recently, as they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-11 record this season. As for Markesan, the loss to Johnson Creek ended their three-match winning streak.

Coming up, the Johnson Creek Bluejays will head on the road to take on Deerfield in the next regional round of the WIAA Playoffs at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 23rd.
