Bluejays Outlast Cambria-Friesland on the Road (Football)

On Friday, October 3rd, Johnson Creek defeated Cambria-Friesland in a physical game on the road, 50-43.
In the first quarter, both teams came to play. With 9:49 left in the first quarter, Cambria-Friesland was on the board first with a 50-yard touchdown run by Callen Drews (#25). The Bluejays responded quickly with Luke Hartz (#9) running in a 48-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion was good. It was now 8-6 with 8:44 left in the first, but the Bluejays were not done.
With 4:02 left in the first quarter, Luke Hartz scored his second touchdown, with this one being a 6-yard run. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 14-6 with the Bluejays leading.
The second quarter was pretty even, with both teams scoring multiple times. A 32 yard touchdown pass by Dayton McBride (#8), along with a 2-point conversion, allowed Cambria-Friesland to tie it up. Creek responded right away with a kick return for a touchdown by Luke Hartz, along with a 2-point conversion. It was now 22-14, Johnson Creek, with 9:32 left in the second quarter.
With 3:31 left in the second quarter, Cambria-Friesland scored another touchdown with Dayton McBride completing a 21-yard pass to Hoyt Helmer (#29). The two-point conversion was run in by McBride, tying the game at 22. When Cambria-Friesland got the ball back, they scored yet another touchdown with 1:18 left in the second quarter on a 4-yard run by Callen Drews. Following a successful extra point, Cambria-Friesland led, 29-22. They would take this lead into the half.
Coming out of halftime, Johnson Creek came out strong. With 10:00 left in the third quarter, Luke Hartz ran in a 46-yard touchdown, with the two-point conversion being good. With 3:17 left in the third quarter, they scored yet another touchdown, with this one being a 2-yard run by Luke Hartz, his fifth total of the night. At the end of the third quarter, Johnson Creek led 36-29.
The fourth quarter was a battle. With 11:02 left on the clock, Jackson Raabe ran in a 4-yard touchdown for Johnson Creek. The two-point conversion was good, making it 44-29, Johnson Creek. Cambria-Friesland responded with Alex Raymond (#21) receiving a pass from McBride for a 12-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion was good, making the score 44-37, Johnson Creek, with 9:56 left in regulation.
On their next possession, a Johnson Creek fumble by Jackson Raabe gave the ball right back to Cambria-Friesland. A few plays later, Luke Hartz would intercept a Dayton McBride pass and return it 87 yards for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was no good, making it 50-37, Johnson Creek, with 7:19 remaining in the fourth.
On their next possession, Cambria-Friesland would score again, as McBride completed a 42-yard touchdown pass to Hoyt Helmer. The extra point was no good, making it still 50-43, Johnson Creek, with 4:55 remaining.
Following the touchdown, Cambria-Friesland would try an onside kick, but it was unsuccessful, with Jalen Carlson coming up with the recovery for Johnson Creek. The Bluejays would run out the clock and score the victory, 50-43.
Luke Hartz had an incredible game for the Bluejays, finishing with 231 rushing yards,4 rushing touchdowns, and two additional touchdowns on a kick return and an interception return. Additionally, Jackson Raabe carried the ball 20 times for 107 yards and a touchdown.
The Johnson Creek Bluejays (6-1 overall, 4-1 in conference) will be headed home for homecoming on October 10th, 2025, where they will take on Parkview/Albany at 7 P.M.
