Bluejays edge Jefferson in Season Opener (Boys Basketball)

On Tuesday, November 25th, 2025, the Johnson Creek Bluejays boys basketball team kicked off the season with a victory over the Jefferson Eagles, 59-56.
The game was an exciting back-and-forth contest. Jefferson controlled the energy on the court early on, but the Bluejays fought back. By halftime, the score was 25-23, Jefferson.
In the second half, the Bluejays fought back and went on a nice scoring run before the Eagles closed the gap again with a 7-0 run to retake the lead, 49-48. At that point, Kace Freimund (13) would electrify the Berres Fieldhouse with a monster dunk, giving the Bluejays the lead right back, 50-49. It was back-and-forth from there, but the Bluejays would seal it down the stretch, holding on for a 59-56 victory.
The Johnson Creek boys’ basketball team had several standout performances in their opening game. Specifically, senior Brady Fincutter (0) scored 24 points, despite only shooting 39% from the field. Furthermore, junior Kace Freimund notched a double-double for the Bluejays, scoring 11 points and snagging 10 rebounds. Hayden Wagner (1) also contributed heavily to the Bluejays scoring, totaling 13 points.
The Johnson Creek Bluejays (1-0 overall) will take some time off for the holidays before returning home to Johnson Creek High School to face the Madison Country Day Prairie Hawks (0-3 overall) on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, at 6:15 pm in their first Trailways-South Conference matchup of the season.
