Bluejays rally past Rio (Boys Basketball)

On Monday, December 29th, 2025, the Johnson Creek Bluejays boys basketball team defeated the Rio Vikings (4-4) at Johnson Creek High School, 60-57.

Both teams went back and forth for a while until the Bluejays started pulling away.  At the first timeout with 11:27 left in the first half, Johnson Creek led Rio, 13-7.  The Bluejays would keep their foot on the gas pedal, but Rio closed the gap before halftime.  At halftime, the score was 25-23, Johnson Creek.

In the second half, Rio started to come back and took the lead, 41-35, with 10:15 left, leading to a Johnson Creek timeout.  The Bluejays started battling back from that point on.  With 5:15 left in the second half, senior Brady Fincutter (0) hit a three to bring the Bluejays back within two, 48-46.

With 3:19 left in the second half, Bluejays sophomore Ethan Broich (21) tied the game with a basket and was fouled.  Broich would make the free throw, converting the and-one opportunity, to give Johnson Creek the lead, 51-50.  Both teams went back and forth from there, but Johnson Creek would hold on for the win, 60-57.

The Johnson Creek Bluejays (5-2) will travel to Whitewater High School on Saturday, January 3rd, to take on the Whitewater Whippets (4-4) in a non-conference battle.  Tip-off is at 12:30 pm.
