Bluejays fall to Waterloo (Boys Basketball)

On Monday, January 26th, 2026 The Johnson Creek Bluejays (9-3) boys basketball team lost to the Waterloo Pirates (3-11), 74-63.
Waterloo started hot, scoring 10 points in the first 2 minutes of the game. The Bluejays started slowly out of the gates, only notching a couple of points in the first couple of minutes. However, they would storm back, cutting the Waterloo double-digit lead to only four at halftime. At the half, Waterloo led Johnson Creek, 31-27.
In the second half, the Bluejays continued to fight back. Eventually, they would tie the game at 44. However, the Bluejays would fall apart from there. Senior Brady Fincutter (0), Johnson Creek's leading scorer on the season, fouled out with over eight minutes left after receiving a technical foul. After that, Waterloo was able to extend its lead and hold off the Bluejays, 74-63.
For the Bluejays, Fincutter finished 1-of-9 from the field with 3 points before fouling out. Junior Jon Kamuchey (12) led the way for the Bluejays with 17 points. The Bluejays also received 13 points from junior Kace Freimund (13) and 7 points each from junior Carlos Martinez (14) and sophomore Ethan Broich (21).
The Johnson Creek Bluejays (9-6) will host a non-conference home game on Thursday, January 29th, 2026, against Saint Ambrose Academy (13-2) at Johnson Creek High School. Tip-off is at 7:15 pm.
