Bluejays come up short against ALCS (Girls Basketball)

by Madison Weidenhoeft, Senior Writer

On Saturday, February 7th, the Johnson Creek Bluejays girls' basketball team went head-to-head with Abundant Life/Saint Ambrose Challengers (16-3) in Madison, falling by a score of 61-26.

The first half of the game seemed to start out smoothly. Neither team was scoring a whole lot, and at one point, they were tied at around 15 points. But this did not last as Abundant Life came crashing in, scoring about 12 more points in what seemed to be seconds. The Ladyjays tried but couldn’t match their stride. The halftime score was 28-17, with Abundant Life in the lead.

This was a continuous pattern throughout the rest of the game. The second half started with the Challengers making basket after basket, while the Bluejays followed not so close behind. It’s almost as if breaking 30 points was impossible for the Johnson Creek girls; this game was a definite struggle against a very skilled team. The Challengers would go on to secure the victory, 61-26.

Though it was a tough game, the Ladyjays fought long and hard with lots of effort. For the Bluejays, senior Alyssa Hucke (3) led the way in scoring with 10 points. Sophomore Tori Buglass (14) also contributed, adding 8 points off the bench.

The Challengers were led by senior Mari Wetzel (3), who notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and snagging 11 rebounds. Senior Emma Belter (10) also had a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 13 boards.

Join us and cheer on the Johnson Creek girls basketball team this Tuesday, February 10th, 2026, in another game against the Abundant Life/Saint Ambrose Challengers at Johnson Creek High School. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
