Bluejays drop season opener against Marshall (Football)
JOHNSON CREEK - On Thursday, August 20th, 2026, the Johnson Creek Bluejays football team fell in their season opener at Johnson Creek High School to the Marshall Cardinals, 36-0.
Both teams were unable to get anything going in the first quarter, with the score remaining tied at zero. Marshall would strike first with 3:38 left in the second quarter on an Andrew Castillo (5) touchdown run. Following a successful extra point by Luis Gamon Alcantara (1), the Cardinals led 7-0.
After a Johnson Creek fumble, Marshall would strike once more before the half on a touchdown pass from Max Moses (8) to Ryan Braun (2) with 1:36 left in the second quarter. Gamon Alcantara’s extra point was good, giving Marshall a 14-0 lead at halftime.
Marshall would strike again with 2:24 left in the third quarter when running back Logan Ney (6) ran in a touchdown for the Cardinals. Following the extra point, Marshall’s lead extended to 21-0.
On the next Bluejays possession, Marshall would get a safety after a botched punt attempt from the Bluejays, making the score 23-0. With 8:59 left in the fourth quarter, Marshall would strike again on a Logan Ney touchdown run, making the score 29-0. The extra point from Gamon Alcantara was no good.
The Cardinals would manage to score one more time on an Oliver Coulson (13) rushing touchdown with 5:01 left in the fourth quarter. The extra point from Gamon Alcantara was good, making the final score 36-0, Marshall.
For the Marshall Cardinals, quarterback Max Moses finished 3-for-5 with 43 passing yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Senior running back Logan Ney carried the ball four times for 136 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore running back Andrew Carillo also provided a boost on the ground, carrying the ball 10 times for 57 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, for the Johnson Creek Bluejays, freshman running back Jaxon Nadboralski (6) carried the ball 15 times for 84 yards and senior running back Carlos Martinez (14) touched the ball 13 times for 47 yards. Defensively, senior Jeffrey Wilson (18) came away with an interception on Marshall’s opening drive.
The Johnson Creek Bluejays (0-1) will be heading on the road to Catholic Central High School to face off against the Catholic Central/Kenosha Christian Life Hilltoppers (0-1) in a non-conference matchup on Friday, August 28th, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.
