Bluejays sweep Cambria-Friesland in Season Opener (Volleyball)

JOHNSON CREEK- On Thursday, August 27th, 2026, the Johnson Creek Bluejay varsity volleyball team swept the Cambria-Friesland Hilltoppers 3-0 in their season opener at Johnson Creek High School, 25-13, 25-7, 25-14.

The first set started quite rough for the Bluejays, going down 5-0 before taking a timeout. The momentum seemed to be in the Hilltoppers' favor, but the Bluejays found a rhythm, scoring 7 points unanswered, bringing the momentum back in their favor. Ultimately helping them win the first set 25-13.

The Bluejays dominated the second set from start to finish, handing the Hilltoppers their second loss, 25-7.

In the final set, both teams were able to put up a fight at the start, but eventually the Bluejays pulled away after some incredible serves by libero Cari Armstrong (3) and won the third and final set 25-14.

In the sweep of the Hilltoppers, the Bluejays received seven kills from Paige Swanson (9). Additionally, junior setter Olivia Frey (13) put together 20 assists, senior CeCe Micale (1) had two blocks, and junior Cari Armstrong served eight aces.

For the visiting Cambria-Frieland Hilltoppers, freshman Lucy Voell (8) finished with a 40% serve percentage, a block, and 14 digs. Additionally, senior Kayleigh Schoemann (9) finished with six kills.

The Johnson Creek Bluejays (1-0) will be competing in the next Belleville Wildcat Invite on Saturday, August 29th, 2026, at Belleville High School.
